Where to Shop for Antiques and Eclectic Finds: From Charleston to Savannah
Antiques and vintage pieces are one of the best ways to give a home character and keep it from looking like everything was purchased from the same showroom.
Whether you are searching for a beautiful chest, original artwork, blue-and-white pottery, vintage accessories or simply something unexpected, there are so many wonderful places to explore throughout the Lowcountry.
Here are a few favorite stops from Charleston to Savannah.

There are also many more wonderful antique stores in the downtown areas of both Charleston and Savannah. They are fun to window shop, but they do tend to run pricier than the off the beaten path places above, which is why my own list of favorites overlooks many of them.
Why a Collection Beats a Shopping Trip
The beauty of shopping for antiques is that you never know what you will find. A room feels much more personal when new furnishings are mixed with pieces that have age, patina and a story to tell.
My own collection started with McCoy pitchers and has grown to include a few other pitchers over the years, though it is still mostly McCoy. They have come in handy at home. I have 24 bookshelves in my great room, and a collection is one of the few things that can break up that much space without looking cluttered. The top two rows hold the pitchers, and I have a few more placed in the top row of the glass display cabinets in my kitchen.
That is the real argument for collecting slowly. Pieces gathered over time, in different places, at different prices, end up looking far more intentional than a group of accessories bought all at once.
